Outcomes
Early Childhood Education
| Children in CUB’s early childhood education program are prepared for kindergarten. |
89% of our children tested ready for kindergarten in the 2010-2011 school year! (That’s 532 out of 598 children.) |
| |
100% of children get medical and dental care. |
| Children learn at CUB’s preschools. |
100% of our lead teachers have credentials with specialized training in early childhood education. |
| |
100% of CUB’s preschools meet and maintain high-quality ratings. All of them have Step-Up-to-Quality stars. |
| |
100% of CUB’s preschools don’t have a television because teachers have worthwhile activities planned for each day. |
| Early childhood education matters. |
Children’s brains develop more in the first five years of their lives than in the rest of their K-12 years combined. |
| |
Each $1 spent in early childhood education saves $7 in future spending on special education, intervention services, and public support. |
Anna Louise Inn
| The Anna Louise Inn meets a need in women’s housing. |
The Anna Louise Inn is the only single-occupancy residence for women in Cincinnati. Typically, 250 women are housed annually. |
| |
For over 100 years, The Anna Louise Inn has provided safe, affordable housing for women. |
| |
98% of the residents are experiencing a transition in their lives with challenging situations such as financial strains, mental health issues, or credit problems that prevent them from seeking housing elsewhere. |
| |
92% of the women at the Inn are living on incomes at or below the 2011 poverty line ($10,890). |
| |
The women pay about 53% of the true cost of their housing, making it affordable for them to live independently on their low incomes. |
| |
43% of the women in residence in 2011 stayed for a year or more. |
Off the StreetsSM (OTS)
| Off the StreetsSM is a successful program. |
498 women served from 2006-2011. |
| |
78% were homeless and 97% were unemployed. |
| |
98% had substance abuse problems. |
| |
Over ¾ of women in prostitution are sexually assaulted as a child. |
| |
Over 1/3 of prostituted women are homeless before age 18. |
| |
For women who participate in the program for 30 days or more, 88% report no involvement in prostitution and 81% report no drug use. |
| Of these same women, over 80% also obtain stable housing, and 66% secured employment or went back to school. |
| Off the StreetsSM has a positive impact on the criminal justice system. |
85% do not get a new prostitution-related conviction in the six months after connecting with OTS. |
